My name is Vinny Figs and I am a fig addict. When I say ‘us’ or ‘we’ it basically means just me and occasional help from my wife and kids. It all started with an English Brown Turkey from Morrisons back in 2006 when I used to think just like everybody else in that Brown Turkey is the tastiest hardiest fig out there. Luckily for me, the tree I bought from Morrisons turned out to be a White fig. However, in 2009 I felt betrayed and raised a massive complaint with Morrisons who refunded the £2.50 I paid for the tree (in vouchers). I did some research into that fig and came across f4f forum- the greatest fig forum ever. Although I found the forum back in 2009, it took me another 5 or 6 years to create an account. Anyway, I found out the white fig in question as a White Marseilles. While looking for additional information, I found out about the Legendary Reads Nursery who had about 30 varieties listed on their website. This is just great I thought and went ahead and bought all of them. Steven Reads was very kind and gifted me a few additional varieties. I never really stopped collecting since then. The biggest revelation in my life was that I realised we used to have a fig tree in one of my parent’s old property. We call it Pellegrino. Most importantly Pellegrino is now growing around the world. Fig collection is one of the most expensive hobbies out there, however, the biggest achievement in all this is not having the rarest, tastiest figs or being the top collector – but spreading the love and meeting good people.
